Office 2010 and Windows 8
Since Samsung Windows 8 tablet that I’ve got on build has pretty much replaced my netbook for my portable computing needs I decided to install Office 2010 on it. Being a tablet the machine lacks CD-ROM drive so my first impulse was to download trial version of Microsoft Office from office.microsoft.com website and use product key to unlock it later. However the 2MB web-installer refused to do anything, while complaining about compatibility issues. No amount of tweaking of compatibility settings could get it to run. The problem was solved by hooking up my of SATA Blu-Ray drive via the magic of USB-SATA adapter. Standard Office installer ran with no trouble and now I have Office 2010 running on my Windows 8. Not bad for a developer preview software.
Alternatively I could have grabbed ISO image from the install disk and mount it on the Windows 8 machine using neat new virtual CD-ROM feature that is built into the OS.
Overall I would say that having a tablet with fully functional USB connectivity on top of usual WiFi and Bluetooth is a big boon
