Redditting is a free Windows 8 app that allows you to search, read, and vote for articles just as you would on the Reddit website, but with or without a Reddit account. Redditting also includes a multiple account monitoring feature that could come in handy for people who share a Windows 8 device or for those who need to monitor multiple Reddit accounts for businesses.
Redditting has a fairly clean and easy-to-use interface, and is fairly straightforward to use. When you enter the app for the first time, a message provides a brief explanation of what the app does, and where the FAQ section is located. I wish that more apps included FAQ sections. I find that FAQs are very helpful for both the user and the technical support staff.
This app includes color contrast and readability customizations. Both of these can be found in the app settings. Redditting comes with light on dark or dark on light color contrast options. Turn on Instapaper or Readability in the settings, and you’ll get cleaner ad free articles.
The topics, or subreddits, are listed in alphabetical order. A drop down menu includes selections such as controversial, popular, and rising. It doesn’t appear to search for keywords within the articles, just the topic keywords, so it might take some additional searching if you’re looking for something specific.
The articles load slowly. This is really the only major drawback I see in this app. Using one of the readability options helps speed up the loading time, but they still lag a bit.
I recommend Redditting if you’re looking for a better overall user experience, and prefer to lurk through Reddit topics without actually having to create an account.
